Why Music?

The life of the arts, far from being an interruption,

a distraction in the life of a nation,

is close to the center of a nation's purpose -

and is a test of the quality of a nation's civilization.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy

A WORD FROM PATRICIA OESTE

Dear Friends, big and small:

I have been involved in the learning of music my entire life. I began with the piano at age six and moved on to clarinet, guitar, organ, and voice. I have never, ever learned it all! Not even close...Try as I might, there is just something new every day to discover.

My classroom should be a place of curiosity, a place of exploration, a place of energy and enthusiasm. I, myself, cannot make it so. The children do this, and do it well! I receive the energy and love and joy that they bring to the classroom - and then, I am able to give it back! And so it goes, an endless circle of creating, discovering, giving and receiving.

I am not a teacher - -
only a fellow traveler of whom you asked the way.
I pointed ahead - - -
ahead of myself as well as of you.

George Bernard Shaw

Thank you for your help and support along the way! Music makes all the difference in our world and the world of our children.
